Sebastião Salgado’s new book is a masterpiece and a very personal declaration of love at the same time: “My love letter to the planet.” Titled “GENESIS – Earth eternal” and his current long-term project, the photographer pays homage to our planet in its natural state. For eight years Sebastião Salgado has been rediscovering the mountains, deserts and oceans, the animals and peoples that have so far escaped the imprint of modern society – the land and life of a still pristine planet.
Salgado, who began his career as a professional photographer in Paris in 1973, traveled on foot, by light aircraft, seagoing vessels, canoes, and even balloons, through extreme heat and cold and in sometimes dangerous conditions to make his comprehensive new opus possible – on over 30 trips all in all. The result is an impressive collection of images which has now been put together in one book: “GENESIS”, published by TASCHEN.
